Re: Double shot of Cafe

Even so, they will be softer than the springs that are on there now. If it turns out they are to stiff, maybe sill look for some old external fork springs & try cutting that down.

Re: Double shot of Cafe

So the shocks im using for the front, I think they are a rear shock for a single shock bike.Like I mentioned they are really stiff.Came up with the idea of taking the springs out of the old shocks on the rear of the bike. Cut some off the top, & heated up the coils & bent them to sort of flat. A lit...

Re: Double shot of Cafe

Heres the basic set up.Have to raise the shocks a little bit to clear the axle nut, but more or less this is it.Im gonna strip them down & polish them. Think Ill have to get different springs for them cause they are really stiff.

Re: Double shot of Cafe

The lowers were remade to add more meat at the bottom. Slots are cut. Gonna make up the rockers & shock mounts in wood this weekend.

Re: Opinions needed

I wasn't feeling to confident in the legs, so made up some new lowers. I'll be able to step up to 7/16 for the rockers have room for bushings & still have 1/2 left on either side. Much happier with these.

Re: Opinions needed

I have a springer with 3/8 rockers too. Made in the 70s & they're still straight. The ones for this build will be pretty short, but think I'm gonna go with 7/16. I also started on new legs with more material at the bottom.... thanks man

Opinions needed

I started cutting the slots in the legs for the rockers. I'm not sure if there is enough material left. The slots are 7/16 & there is 3/8 on either side left. The problem is I still need to take a little off the out side so the bolts will have flat areas to sit on. Also is this plate thick enough to...

Re: Double shot of Cafe

The upper tubes finally got cut down, & lowers fitted in. Shocks should be herein a week. Then I can figure out rocker shape, mounts for shocks, & make the slots for the rockers.

, The tank will wind up being a little lower than it is in the pic, cause I did a little more trimming after the pic was taken.

Re: Double shot of Cafe

The seat posts are in the way for the split tanks we plan on building, so the had to be moved. IMG_1368.JPG After they were cut out, slugs were made & installed. IMG_1392.JPG IMG_1393.JPG . New tube was bent & welded in plce IMG_1414.JPG . They will attach to a false back bone (easier than cutting o...

I went on a couple sites, but couldn't find 1020. Is 1018 similar?
