Re: Springer tubing size question.

problem with stainless is that it work-hardens and becomes brittle. Even welding it makes it brittle and I've seen literally hundreds of stainless weldments in the marine business fail unexpectedly so I wouldn't use it myself for forks but for a show bike it'd be okay. It all depends on how much the...

Re: jig adjustments

Great work on that frame design but if you look into some of the data derived from structural studies on cycle frames you'll find that it is best not to make the neck tube part of the structural spaceframe. I've talked about this before. It's best to terminate the downtube into the backbone and then...

Re: drought

One of the problems (or maybe the blessings) of discussions boards, blogs and general Internet sites is that people have finally caught on to the fact that this digital stuff just doesn't matter and a lot of people are just ignoring the whole 'social media' thing which I think is probably a good thi...

Re: Frameless frame

Keep in mind that frames like this are designed around powerplants that have also been designed to become a structural element. Not all motor/tranny assemblies will qualify or be up to the task of handling the stress of becoming part of the frame.

Re: Mini bike brakes

What forks are you using, what wheel/hub do you want to use. Easy way would be using sporty hub if you have the needed width for the hub. drill the mini rotor to match the hub or even have a new one cut at a machine shop.

Re: rockers

You're on the right track with those new rockers you made now just some fine tuning should get you going. If it seems to quick with the steering then you need even more tail, not less but the overall shape and geometry of what you've done is excellent.

Re: rockers

For a quick fix you can just make some rockers that look kind of like what Freddie and Mondo build. That'll move the axle out slightly and down a few inches so that the springs actually work. It's hard to tell from the snapshot but it looks like there might be some rakd cups going on with the neck o...

Re: Hello folks, '91 sporty project needs help..

There are probably two dozen different 'basic' wiring diagrams floating around on the net so can't give any really good recommendations as to which one to use so just search google for basic chopper wiring diagram and then download the one that comes close to what you aim to do. Most likely you'll e...

That is one outstanding piece of work. The basic frame sculpting really starts to show now that you've got color on it. I hate to think of how many hours you've got into this project but like most of us know it's all a labor of love for the craft and you're certainly a craftsman.

Re: Denver Choppers Redo

It's great to see these old bikes being drug out into daylight again. The forensics of rebuilding them is worth gold as we get to see first hand how they were originally built. This is an outstanding link and I'll spend a couple of hours going back thru it a couple of times to soak up the good info.

Front Motor Mount Patterns

Ironically I now have two Sporty's but everything is at somebody else's shop. I'm looking for dimensions or a pattern for the old ironhead front motor mount plates, 57 to around 82 or so before the change to newer version with the 'kinks' in them.
Thanks

Re: Slow Build

I was taught to use the rear motor mount as the 'good one' even if it was 'off' and then shim the front. Try to match the tranny mount to the rear motor mount if you use this advice. I have yet to see a chassis, factory or otherwise, where all three planes were spot-on.

Re: Rear drive belt length

You're actually pretty close based upon the video and I've seen a lot worse. In a situation like this we've often just used brute force to 'tweak' the lower bends by clamping the lower rails down firmly (just ahead of where the bends start) and then using a cheater tube over the full length of the r...
