Re: New HD Evo or S&S for hardtail
After looking into it a bit more, I think I will go with the S&S 96". It comes with carb, air cleaner, ignition, manifold, and is a better engine. By the time I buy the HD Evo and kit it out with those parts, its only slightly less than the S&S. The other thing is the EVO doesn't have A...

Re: New HD Evo or S&S for hardtail
Oh, I know...just go and ask!
Just weekend thinking, and since the web site isn't very clear about warranties, that I can find, I thought Id throw it out there.
I'll just have to make a visit to the local HD dealer during my work day (sigh)!

Re: New HD Evo or S&S for hardtail
Anyone know how long the warranty is on a new Evo? Im assuming its not that long if it is used in a chopper versus a regular HD.

New HD Evo or S&S for hardtail
I am building a custom hardtail on a budget and i see that i can get a new stock Evo engine from HD for about $3800 Canadian. I know S and S is an awesome engine, but they are expensive, and im looking for opinions from everyone about using a stock Evo? In a light hardtail, will the low horsepower b...

Lift table
IMG_1878.JPG Hey, I am trying to build myself a lift table (see pic -its 9' long so I can fit my chopper on it!)) and I'm running into power issues with my cylinder. I am using a 3" bore - 14" stroke cylinder, but it doesn't seem to have the power to raise the table unless I help it up (w...

Re: steering stack
Thanks Gary, that helps a lot to understanding the principle here. There must be some lateral stability accomplished by the top tree having the stem going through it or the front end would collapse, but its not any form of compresive support on the bearing. Therefore, the top tree does not have to b...

steering stack
I am trying to get my steering stack set up and I am getting conflicting information. On the top side of the stem, there should be: -bearing -dustcover -star nut -tab washer -jam nut -tree -top nut Now what confuses me is that sometimes i see that the jam nut is omitted and the tree and top nut seem...

Re: Two questions
Thanks guys. I will do a trial fit when I get home with the parts I have. What I am reading in all of this is that the hole in the top tree that the stem will go through should probably be counterbored from the top and the bottom to accomodate the nuts. If I counterbored it 1/4" on both sides, ...

Re: Two questions
OK, so I got the lower tripple tree tapped for the stem, and it seems to fit into their nicely, but I am seeing an issue. The stem has 1" of threaded area on both ends. My trees are 3/4" thick, so the stem just barely sticks out the lower end of the lower tree, so it is not possible to ins...

Re: Two questions
Ill have to check the plans again.
I used the threaded rod method to pull the neck cups into the frame and it worked like a charm! I even managed to get the lower one lined up perfectly for the steering stop, so I'm thrilled!
thanks again Curt.

Re: Two questions
Thanks Curt, that's an awesome idea about the threaded rod, I'll give it a go! The stem perplexes me a bit. I would think the tapping of the hole would have to be spot on and straight, and then I would be relying on the threads that I cut to keep it all together. They are real fine machine thread (2...

Two questions
1. I have purchased a 25mm steering stem with threaded ends on both ends, now i need to attach it to my lower tree. Do i try to tap out the tree, which only has a pilot hole at the moment, to fit the threading, or would it be better to have the stem welded in? Also, its a stainless stem, is there an...
