Re: Springer Welding, Need some clarification?

Should I remove the inner springs on both top and bottom if I'm gonna try that?

Re: Springer Welding, Need some clarification?

Ok so the bike is almost done on mock up, meaning ready to ride around the block before being registered, then broken down for paint. So the question is since the bike is on the ground should I be able to make the front end move by putting my weight on it and pushing up and down? Because the springs...

Re: Springer Welding, Need some clarification?

Thanks for all the compliments. I took standard measurements from online for a round oil bag, which they want an unseemly amount of money for and used those dimensions to make this one. It's a 6" round piece of copper tube 11 7/8" long. What you don't see in the pic are on the ends are goi...

Re: Springer Welding, Need some clarification?

I don't see it making much difference, using logic it doesn't seem like it would have that much affect unless your spring rods were crap. But then again it's the little things that sometimes matter.

Pictures here! I built and machined everything myself, motor and wheels aside.

Re: Springer Welding, Need some clarification?

Thanks I figure the same thing, can't hurt but if your spring rods are solid you should have no problem.

Re: Springer Welding, Need some clarification?

Well got the springer built.

There is a part that bolts the two spring rods together at the top, it's called the spring bridge. Is that necessary to have? I noticed most springers do not have it, but the plans from gary does. I made it, I just think it looks better without it.

Re: Rear Hoop Clearances Help

Sweet thanks. So I'll go 1/4" on the drive side and make the hoop equidistant on each side. Thanks for the help. Will post update pics once it's welded up. I also just finished my copper oil tank. I'll start a new thread for that.

Re: Rear Hoop Clearances Help

Ok, we all seem confused. But I appreciate the thought everyone is giving. The frame I had i built from scratch with the tires and rims that I had on hand. Then I bought some nicer rims for cheap so I'm going with those. So I chopped my new frame to account for the new rims and drive line, no biggie...

Re: Rear Hoop Clearances Help

Sure I'll post a pic when the chopping is done, but I need clearance dimensions first.

That still doesn't answer my question. I need to know the distance between the outer edge of the pulley and the frame so I know what inner width to make the hoops. Thanks.

Rear Hoop Clearances Help

OK, so I built a custom frame and ended having to chop it to fit the wheels I got, I got a smokin' deal on some genuine harley rims. First question should I offset the rear hoop so the clearance is correct on each side of the wheel, so that the hoop is actually offset from the bike? Or should I make...
