Re: single wheel trailer "on the cheap"

been awhile since I've visited here! Good to see the address hasn't changed recently! I like that enclosed single wheel trailer in the vid gearhead! I may end up using the Thule sidekick eventually for something like that - now that I've replaced the trailer hitch on the bike with one of the "n...

Re: single wheel trailer "on the cheap"

We put on 4,997 miles on the trip. Left on July 6th and made it back home the evening of July 18th. I took a few pics (or so I thought i did) of the trailer after it was completed - however something was goofy with my digital camera and I had to reformat the memory in order for it to work for the tr...

Re: single wheel trailer "on the cheap"

well she's done! Friggen state, I don't know where I got the idea I had to get it inspected... :angry-cussingblack: called first thing this morning attempting to make an appointment to get it inspected (recommended) and was told the soonest was sometime in August, not good when you're planning on hi...

Score!

bob, I sort of chuckled when you said the manual would have something in it about trailers - BUT I haven't confirmed it but I sort of doubt it with all the nay sayers I see on the web stating their issues concerning that their bikes were setup to pull trailers and the moco gave them flack about it. ...

Re: single wheel trailer "on the cheap"

now why did ya have to bring that up Bob? LOL Here I was hoping to skate by and not have to figure actual tongue weight... Yes, I know that should be done anyway. I'll make a simple jig made out of 2x4 or 2x6 to take the place of the wheel - this is so I can use the bathroom scale method of figuring...

Re: single wheel trailer "on the cheap"

finally towed the trailer home last night. Had it out on the highway with the cruise set to 65 or so. Handled just fine. I did feel a little bit of the wind rocking the trailer back and forth but it wasn't enough to actually affect the bike. This evening I put two logs weighing approx 26 lbs each, o...

Re: single wheel trailer "on the cheap"

haven't tried it while loaded yet. Using the 3D model of this design I crunched some numbers and the tongue weight came in at around 26lbs with a 30" tongue, note that length is only the 1 1/2" sq tube forward of the vertical 1 1/2" sq tube, it doesn't count the length of the u-joint ...

Re: single wheel trailer "on the cheap"

tks all I can see how some might consider it over kill just to be able to carry a couple of bags and think that I should have just mounted a rack on the tour pak. I'd rather have the weight down below rather than up high though. I'm still sort of shock how it came together and worked...had suspected...

Re: single wheel trailer "on the cheap"

making some progress :banana-dance: :auto-dirtbike: most of the welding is done and we were able to do a short road test. All that's left to weld up is a bar to hold the tail light up - hopefully that will be done next week then I can finally get my hands on it so as to get it painted up and wired u...

Re: single wheel trailer "on the cheap"

so much for attempting to get this on the road by the time the bike came out of storage! Plans now are to hopefully have something that can be tested on the road by early May. Usual delays in getting anything done - plans for who could/would do any stage of this changed monthly! Sorry about quality ...

if there was a pic of those rockers, looking directly at the sides, I could replicate it. Hate to guess at it though.

Re: single wheel trailer "on the cheap"

OK OK, enough of the teaser pics, here's some of the real thang! :banana-gotpics: Well, at least the 14" complete wheel assy with the 2007 kawi swingarm plus both axles. Looks like I wont have to adjust the wheel spacers at all. The worst pic shows the slots I had milled out to 15mm, not sure i...

Re: single wheel trailer "on the cheap"

I know I've seen those pics somewhere before Groenie! I bet that makes ppl smile when they see you coming with the beer! Gary's remark reminded me of the multiple pics I seen where one guy on a ultra classic was pulling what appeared to be a trailer to haul cars on, but it was fully loaded with beer...

Re: free alt Acad software

does sort of make you wonder, the company that produces SW, has created "freeware" software that mimics how AutoCAD works!

I'm just friggen happy they put together something that works in linux, is free and works like something I am used to!
