I cut a slot in my rear legs and welded in a tab, 3/8 thick. I used 1 1/4 Inch tubing for the rear legs.

I'm sure what you are doing will work fine.Your pivot bolt will be held by the slot. Solid material looks pretty strong.

Jack your bike up so the front wheel does not touch. Is it hard to turn either way when elevated?
