Re: 62 Chopped FL Rebuild

I built this VT as instructed with 62 degrees of rake. And surprise surprise it had incredible chopper flop just like I told him before we started. If I narrowed the steering stops enough to prevent flop it would only steer a few degrees. I mooved the axle to the top of the sliders and put wide bars...

Re: A Few Photos from Speed Week 2017

It's the best motorsports event anywhere and definitely worth the time and money. If you take a bike to ride on the salt spray it down every morning with WD40 or Baby Oil.

Re: Steering stem material

1018 would be fine. If you have the ability machining it out of hot rolled shaft would be best. Next best would be seamless tube then resistance welded tube And if I had to use DOM I would dye it to find the weld.

Re: Steering stem material

The ones I have had in the lathe cut like mild steel. I never put one on the grinder to be for sure but they aren't very tough. as heavy as they are 1020 ought to be fine if I used welded tube I think I wouldn't use DOM so I could be sure the weld was not straight forward or backward. If you decide ...

Re: 62 Chopped FL Rebuild

Sometimes you have to coat the jet well with chalk or dry erase marker and invert the carb and then right it several times to mark the float for contact. If you can't move the float on its mount enough to eliminate the contact It won't hurt Cottons floats to scrape a little for clearance.

Re: 62 Chopped FL Rebuild

I usually order the stuff to make cables from Flanders. So I end up with cables that fit like I want. It only takes a few minutes to make a cable.

Thought I was going for a ride today!

Opened the barn and caught a hitchiker slithering aboard https://s6.postimg.org/k78ejw13l/IMG_20170730_132057816_HDR1.jpg Since he had a pointed tail and no rattles I decided that he could finish his rodent inspection. After awhile he pronounced El Indio free of ratones and slithered out the front. ...

Re: 62 Chopped FL Rebuild

Quite often the rubber o-ring washers are slightly too large to fit the spot face for a brass or copper washer. I usually stick a bolt through the washer and grind until it will fit. If ya still gots the brass or copper washer that will do also.

Re: Dusty's Bonneville Scout Build

Got tired of dreading turning the splines out of those ratchets so I started today. No way I was gonna be able to take an interrupted, cut tool steel wont touch it and a carbide insert wont handle that kind of interruption. So I dug the tool post grinder out and reached in with a 4mm diamond . https...

Re: Dusty's Bonneville Scout Build

Bought a closeout rebuilt starter for some jap car in fleebay for $14.59 to make my starter out of. Turned the nose cone off and machined a bearing holder to slide into what's left of the nose come. Damn thing ran backwards so I had to rotate the brushes a quarter turn. https://s6.postimg.org/md96f7...

I'm not a mod here I mod S&S cycle Vintage Tech Forum. I was just making a smart ass comment about my dislike of most social media.
