Re: My spirder

Hi one question what gas strut did you use in the bottom of the front end ? I didn't build it so I'm not sure what type of spring is in it. I was told its basically a spring, rod, and a few bushings. There's a thread on here "Saving a Harmon " I think that has a few pics of the inside of ...

Re: Another leader build

Where do You think the Measurement is off?I just checked Mine, & with the Forks at 8" centers & running the Rockers on the outside, I have 9" between my Rockers. Not sure yet. I was a little confused with the plans. On one page there was a thrust washer on each side of the rocker ...

Re: Another leader build

The leafer is done but I goofed a measurement somewhere and only left 4.18" between the narrowest point on the rockers and my hub won't fit. Not only will mine not fit, I haven't found one that will and allow me to run disc brakes. Thought about drum on front but every one I've checked is too w...

Re: My spirder

A guy in New Mexico built it for me to my specs. I hated to buy a front end after all the work I put into the leafer but I have another bike to build and the leafer will go on it. I'll post my issues with it in the build thread.

My spirder

I haven't given up on the leafer build but i ran into a problem with it. I need the bike together to ride to an event next week so.........I got a spirder! I think this may be the worlds shortest spirder (20.5"). I didn't build it but its still cool. Can't report on the ride quality yet but hop...

Re: Another leader build

Still not done! I must say I have a new respect for all you machinist out there. I spent hours over the weekend trying to mill my rockers from solid 1" stock. Didn't even get close before I gave up. This was on my buddies Bridgeport. I have since cut new rockers from 1/2" bar and will make...

Re: Another leader build

I have the rebound spring, just haven't put in in yet because the bolts holding the spring are too short. Been meaning to buy longer ones for about a month now and you just reminded me! Just started machining the rockers today. I'm using a buddy's mill so I may not get to finish them until next week...

Re: 69 BSA Rocket3... the Unholy Virgin

Not sure where you've tried for the carb parts but I've had good luck with MAP in Florida. There a few small shops that are good for finding the hard to find stuff:

Skinner's Motorcycles in Auburn,Al
British American in Atlanta

Re: Another leader build

I got it all welded up. The legs were tweaked a little during welding which makes it a pain in the ass to get the top tree on but I should be able to fix that tomorrow. Here's a pic of a quick mock up for the rocker measurements. It looks like the rocker mounting hole is a lot higher than the axle b...

Re: Another leader build

So I got the rear legs welded up and I wanted to go ahead and mount it on the bike to mock up the rockers. When I loosened the bolts that held the bottom of the rear legs, the left leg moves out about 1/8th". I have not welded the front legs in. Is this movement going to be a problem or is it n...

Re: Another leader build

I didn't like the way the legs ends turned out so I remade them. Much more in line now. I also put a little more bend in the legs so everything line up better. http://i11.photobucket.com/albums/a163/heaton22/ken/IMAG0082.jpg I'm using a sportster internal threaded stem which is a little long so I ma...

That's everyone. Didn't get a chance to work on it today. Hopefully this weekend I can get the rockers sorted and get started on them.

Re: Another leader build

Well here it is on the bike. It's not welded yet but I needed some measurements with it on the bike. After its tacked I'll put it back on and make rockers out of wood. I'm not so confident in my rocker drawing and I'm making them from 1" bar and on borrowed mill time so a wood mock up seems to ...

Re: WM or CM profile?

It cleaned up no problem. I found the reason it was so cheap is because it is definitely a CM profile. I was told that in the early 70's Harley made wheels that could only use a specific type of Goodyear tire (the CM) profile. If I mount a WM, TL, or MT type tire to it the wheel will spin on the tir...

WM or CM profile?

So i bought this 18" aluminum rear wheel for my triumph and after removing the tire, I think I know why it was so cheap. I was told it was from a sportster and is stamped 43008-70. Can anyone tell by the shitty pic if it is a CM or WM profile? http://i11.photobucket.com/albums/a163/heaton22/ken...
