The Chopper Handbook

A lot of guys and gals are here because of the formation of the original chopper handbook. I, myself, have been a part of it either through forums or contribution or spearheading projects for a decade. I found it as I was going through my first divorce. It provided me something to read while the ex took everything else. I looked at it online at the local library computers.
Well fast forward to the chopper boom and me teaching circa 2004. I touched base with Gary about some CDs to try and help students understand concepts I was explaining. Gary helped me out as he does everyone. By the end of the day that i received them I printed and bound all the articles. I made back up copies of the original web pages and saved them to a hard drive. It was what my life was all about. I read every page. Then I reread and made sure I understood every concept he was throwing down. I then reread, understood, and highlighted every page. Then I reread, understood, highlighted, and started my own additions. SOSOSOSOSOS on you get the point. At the end of last night I looked at my book, and yes i said my book because it has morphed into something of my making and sweat and tears and money. As i looked at it i became upset. Why is the GenY population not here? Why are they at ChopCult or JockeyJournal? I need to figure out a way to connect these people with this information and these two websites. It has to be more than telling a friend. So I ask you for your help in a way to bring the handbook and the compendium to the forefront of the chopper instruction and building. I am trying to bridge a connection on generational kinetics. Your help and input is appreciated.

I write down old timers notes tips and stories...you should hear some of the John Harman stories.


I print pictures and notes and add to the binder


And I added in my own blueprints for my parts or parts i have bought and want to keep

I am tring to share and spread the word that they can do it but, most of my generation I went to school with could not change their own oil or even wanted to know how let alone understand how the thing worked!!

no doubt most of my stuff is on here or my hard drive if the site ever goes down or my computer crashes im screwed looks like ill be busy for a while too . hopefully I can pull some cash together soon so I can get back to some of my projects

It has been SLOW lately. I pop in almost every day and catch up if there's been any posts. Lately it has been like a drive by shootin'.

Yep, and I know, I'm part of the problem. Just been busy as hell trying to get caught back up at work and the last place I want to be in my free time is on the computer.

i mention this site and the chopper handbook every chance i get. not many people are willing to go to all of the trouble to make a jig and then only make one frame or front end. easier to buy one and move on with there projects.
i follow a lot of people on instagramm and some blogs and i've noticed since gary put up his plans there have been quite a few frame jigs popping up. most are exact copies of garys or the one from crime scene choppers.
btw put me in line to check out that binder/book.

I tell everyone I can about both sites. Most of my friends and contacts off the boards don't have the fab skills to do more than bolt ons, and seem to be overwhelmed by the idea. Those with the fab skills lack the space or tooling. I'm working on it, though. I am in the lack o' tooling boat. Gonna build my own jig, soon, then I'll talk them into heavier mods on their own machines. Very impressive binder, too. Gonna have to add that to the to do list.

I tell everyone I can about this site, recommend it highly, especially if they seem to be into making/fabbing their own. Someof the most recent are just not into computers, met two guys the last 2 weeks that don't have email addys, but they love old Harleys and rods.

Guy i am just trying to get the site up to where it was at its mid-peak. the luster of building is wearing off again and we need to keep the core of people with ability and drive doing this. I can not tell you how many guys, that i know, have gotten rid of their customs and bikes in general. I just want to carry on what Gary, Jim, Dan, and the many others helped to create. I want to take everything i have learned and the shit that i have worked on and add it to the next version of the handbook. I want to add in all my notes, all my blueprints , and build rules. I do not want it to be a "hey give me free shit and i will never use it" type of deal. I want the younger generations to build and carry on. Also I some schmuck to make a movie about the builds on this site and how we changed the face of what chopper building was all about.

Nate I know you want to build as Gary informed me of the emails. He is trying to get the account squared away again so he can help you out. That is the type of thing i am talking about...you build run into a question and we can answer it. Why are we not gaining the input of builders like they get at other sites. Think about special seventy-nine, and acme choppers, and three two choppers. they contribute to sites but they are not here.
