We have had an on again and off again relationship with the 'Horse' since we first published the site back in 02 or 03. The mag was one of the first that we got 'hate mail' from for publishing so-called 'proprietary' info but I don't know that the mail actually came from the staff there but that's how it was addressed. For the most part the magazine tends to ignore sites like ours where they can't get advertising from and I don't blame them for that as that's how they make a living. From what I've seen the article is one of best ever published by a rag that tells regular folks how to build something. The mags usually don't publish stuff like this since the main thrust has to be for advertisers on stuff a person needs to buy and bolt-on in order to be 'cool'. I think they did everybody a great service for publishing this article and I hope they do more like it.

By the way most people don't realize it but the Chopper Handbook and this forum have never used 'advertisers' to support the sites. Almost all other sites and forums that I am aware of use 'ad's to generate revenue and as a result they subject themselves to 'control' by the advertisers who support them.
Sometimes this control is almost non existent but at other times it can actually dictate the direction a site decides to follow. A lot of good forums have degenerated into an 'advertiser forum' because they decided to accept paid ads. I've seen distinct changes in sites like the Jockey Journal and others over the years so the effects of advertisers is not slight which is why we don't use them. How much money can a site make by using ads? Years ago we were offered $600 a month just to host one banner for a popular chopper magazine. I imagine that the rates have gone up by now. Then again that was when we were getting 10,000 hits a day. Now that's down to about 100 at the main site but everything goes in cycles and we are seeing a slight upward trend and expect a huge improvement when the socialists are out of power and people can find jobs again. Some of my friends in the trades have basically been unemployed for years under this current administration.
Enough preaching for now.
