SELF INTRODUCTION: I've been into motorcycles of all types for 35 years & Harleys for the past 25. I do all of my own work, including fabricating & adapting parts. When you own a '74 ironhead like I do, it's either sink or swim --- if you can't roll your own you're going to spend a lot of time walking.

...I'm going to be jumping into a lot of little mod projects for my '74 IH and every bit of tech info & savvy is going to help.
I'm working at a severe disadvantage in that my work space consists of a motorcycle parking spot in my condo building's garage and I don't have any place to set up or use a welder.
Fortunately, I'm used to making do (the whole lemons into lemonade deal) with what I've got and DO have the basics for getting myself into trouble --- drill press, angle & bench grinders.

The '74 is up & running well but I need to relocate my oil filter mount from where it now sits, blocking removal of the battery.

I'm leaning towards an axle-mounted plate that can double as a home for my license plate on one side and the remote filter on the other.
It's going to have to be a bolt-together due to the limitations mentioned above, but I've got a nice 1/4" thick 12" X 6" aluminum plate & a 1/4" thick L-shaped brace as raw materials to start so hopefully it'll be sturdy enough without weighing a ton.

Thanks, Max.
I was just digging through my scraps bin and came across a 4" X 4" steel maltese cross weldment, 1/8" thick, that I'm going to use as the building block for my Wile E. Cotote bracketry contraption.
Was just getting into opening up the 3/4" axle hole on it when the girlfriend came in to bitch about the noise.

SELF INTRODUCTION: Hi Dan, thanks for your time and energy spent on this new board. I hope you will give me a waiver on the email account, I have used gmail so long I don't have a clue what my service provider account is.
I just returned home from a 2 week trip in New Mexico, have a few good pix, can't wait to share my off-highway traveling. Got to put 1400 miles on the scoot.
