rear measurements

Post by krymis »

Just for reference here is a chart i use to set the width of my frames at the axle area. I use axle blocks that are the same width as my frame tubes. If you use axle plates and place them further out of the inside of the tube face, you need to add that amount to the measurements listed.

140 or smaller tire 9" inside to inside axle plates

180 belt / 200 chain 10 3/16 inside to inside axle plates with centerline to non-drive side measuring 4 9/16 and centerline to drive side measuring 5 5/8

250 12 5/8 inside to inside axle plates with centerline to non-drive side measuring 5 13/16 and centerline to drive side measuring 6 7/8

280 13 3/16 inside to inside axle plates with centerline to non-drive side measuring 6 1/16 and centerline to drive side measuring 7 1/8

it changes the tire width used. usually 20 mm smaller. so a 250 width would do a 230mm with belt.

SELF INTRODUCTION: Hi Dan, thanks for your time and energy spent on this new board. I hope you will give me a waiver on the email account, I have used gmail so long I don't have a clue what my service provider account is.
I just returned home from a 2 week trip in New Mexico, have a few good pix, can't wait to share my off-highway traveling. Got to put 1400 miles on the scoot.

I have a rigid frame I bought off Craigslist years ago, along with a bunch of other parts.
It measures 10-3/4" between the axle plates. With it, I got a spoke rim with a 200-55x18 tire.
I don't remember if it came with a pulley or sprocket, it's in a parts box somewhere.

Any thoughts on what would be a good drive to use? Seems like I have enough space to run a pulley on this rim.

looks like a 180 with belt but that is all in pulley offset choice and primary alignment. So many things can be played with to get an assembly to work. Remember too these measurements are based on certain hubs with certain rim width with certain fender thickness and spacing. So many things to think about.

Looking at this info, you call out 10-3/16 for using 180 belt / 200 chain.

Since I have 9/16" more space, made me think a 200 with a pulley would have plenty of room, and use appropriate spacers to align.
