- SELF INTRODUCTION: I was on the last board as bonustoolkit. I have changed that to my given name.
I started a project build there " File and Fit." I paln to continue that when I go back home in Dec. 2011. I first joined the board when Gary W had it in the year 2005. That was the time I really gained an interest in building chops. I have a long way to go, compared to some here.
Re: Front engined VW
FYI , I just remembered this springer build from a while back.
Check his rockers, they are not like yours, but very original.

Well the little 11yr old girl took up dirt track oval racing. I have been heavy into being pit crew. So i have not been working on the scooter until recently.
She is getting competitive. On pace in the mix and getting good at driving sideways.

Back to the scooter..
Getting a rechop and rebuild.
Engine is going 2387cc fuel injected and distributer less.
I have collected a pile of parts and pieces and started some machine work. A lonnnnnnnng way to go.
But the rockers ended up simple straight forward items.
Same geometry but no frills.

Re: Front engined VW
Trike looks great! Now, let me be the dumb-ass (didn't see anyone else ask), what did you do to get 4 forward gears when the engine/ trans is "backwards" as opposed to a V W Beetle? What am I missing? Seems like you'd have 4 speeds in reverse!

Re: Front engined VW
On an older ( 74 0n back ) VW transaxle if you remove and swap side for side the covers that the half shafts go into the trans thru you will reverse the trans output ! The diff carrier and ring gear comes off as a unit with one of the covers and will fit either side !

Re: Front engined VW
Thanks, Gearhead. Seem to recall that Buggy guys used a Bus trans-axle for lower gearing. But didn't know about the reversing option.

Re: Front engined VW
Actually no.
But flipping the ring is the easiest way to do it.
I flipped the entire trans. Just took some internal machine work on the oiling. It made my engine be six inches lower than "normal would be.

Re: Front engined VW
This empty case and adapter is between the engine and trans.
This moves the engine forward about 17 inches.
