Original poster has comments on youtube about the dark smudge under Dutch's nose.
It is actually due to film quality enhancing shadows, you can see it is not there in the closeups.

How much knowledge has been lost with the passing of the early customizers?

The use of lacquer thinned with banana oil to dye leather got my attention.
Imagine being able to blend a custom color for a special project.

What else did they know that they didn't consider important, but it's lost now.

Dutch's views about how striping began was interesting. Look how the early customizing developed into the Kustom Kulture.
