Mounting a Disk Brake on a Girder or Fixed leg front end

This is a write up I was allowed to do under The Handbook Facebook banner.

Mounting a Disk Brake on a Girder or Fixed leg front end is very simple.

You only need to make a 1/4in thick plate and very important have this plate welded across both legs. If you connect to only one leg then the force of stopping will break the one tube. You will see here mounting slugs were made to reuse the stock bolts and welded to the 1/4 in plate.

You need to have your axle and wheel spacers made and the wheel tight in the girder assembly. Then put the caliper in position where it is square with the rotor and not rubbing on the top of rotor. If you look at the pads you can see where they were riding from the factory.
