The Year....1948

Post by Jeff L »

This is the Restoration of a 1948 Simplex Servi-Cycle.These were American Bikes built from 35-64 + or -.I've had this Bike stored in Boxes for Years. As far as I remember it's like 98% there,so it will be pretty much just cleaning things up & Paint. The Engine will be rebuilt...it's a 2stroke.I think 125cc's....I've been working on the Frame for a couple of Weeks on & off. It's primed & ready for Paint

After hearing the OL bitch for like 3 Days about the smell of Paint in the Garage after priming the Frame,I figured it'd be best for everyone in the House to wait on a nice Day so I could do it Outside.Well Today was that Day (Hard to believe it was around 70 here Today).Got the Color on just in time. Started to Rain after I finished.I'll have to get better Pics so the true Color shows. It looks a little minty Green, but it's actually Cream.

I didn,t get Pics of the before on some of the Parts but this Pic shows what the general condition of the Bike was like.As crusty as it is,the Brake Shoes look pretty new.The Springer is PCed,just waiting on some flat Black to do the Springs & I can put the Front End on.

SELF INTRODUCTION: Hi Dan, thanks for your time and energy spent on this new board. I hope you will give me a waiver on the email account, I have used gmail so long I don't have a clue what my service provider account is.
I just returned home from a 2 week trip in New Mexico, have a few good pix, can't wait to share my off-highway traveling. Got to put 1400 miles on the scoot.

Got the Springs PCed & put the Frontend together. Also PCed the Seat Pan,unfortunately the Leather on the Seat was so worn & brittle that it beyond use.I plan on just leaving the seat as is for now.Hopefully I'll find some extra Cash one of these Days to send it out & get covered.

Been busy with this & that not much Time for fun Shit.I have been doing a little bit of work, got the Tank & front Fender done.Tank still needs to be sealed yet.I'm working on the front Rim & Hub now.Everything is pitted so bad,I switched from Powder Coating to Paint, cause at $40.00 a Can for Hi Temp Lab Metal,it's gonna be much cheaper for me to prep for Paint.

Wheel is Laced & threw it up to see.I was planning to do the Rim,Hub,& Spokes all flat Black. After seeing it on,I think it's gonna need a little contrast.I have to take it apart & paint the Rim & Hub....I'll leave the Spokes Stainless...I might Scotch Brite them to a satin finish.I'll have to see how I feel about the White Walls after both are mounted.
