Well charting new ground for me need help here?

Started laying out for the front end. After talking to kyrmis about what to do to get the bike ready.

Raised the frame up 1 in in front.

Image

Found the neck angle here. 46 degrees.

Image

Image

Tried to do your large trail link angle find.

Put string at start of ground patch rear tire.

Image

Set trail at 2 in ground trail.

Image

4 in of trail

Image

Then the string from the rear to the front axle and got the angle.

Image

Recreated this in the drawing but not sure the rockers will look as i want?

Image

I used the 90 degree rule but this gives me really long rockers at 4 in let alone 2 in trail?

Image

After talking with Jaxon about spring ratios and he recomended to move the forks out from the trees and also to move trail forward. And that I needed a better rocker ratio I did as he suggested.

Came up with this at the 90 degree rule and 3 in real trail. The rockers also have real close to the ratio he said I would need.

Image

This is the motion print of the brakes to see if there is a problem?

Image

Anybody need any other prints or have any input Please help! It is a blank slate I can make 100 prints until right?

Got the neck shaft ready to make trees/yokes for.

Cut the lower tree/yoke off with grinder.

Turned until I could tap the bearing off from back side.

Turned the weld off for lower tree/yoke.

Then turned between centers until it peels off.

Now to order new bearings to press on and make trees/yokes.

I got my neck bearings ordered should be here about thrusday.

Got the rough width drawing done and figured out all the distances for componets.

Got all the parts for front rockers and spring units ordered should be here monday or tuesday.

Also made the rear axle spacers but have not got pics.

I need to work backwards on the front end and get the front wheel and rockers made with the brake floating spacers done. That will tell me my final tree width and can then build the trees.

SELF INTRODUCTION: I was on the last board as bonustoolkit. I have changed that to my given name.
I started a project build there " File and Fit." I paln to continue that when I go back home in Dec. 2011. I first joined the board when Gary W had it in the year 2005. That was the time I really gained an interest in building chops. I have a long way to go, compared to some here.

Thanks this is how I figured the spring rate constant in lbs of force?

Gary say in the handbook that a bike with 45 degree rake will have 36% of weight on front wheel.

I am guessing the bike to be 500lbs or so when done and a 270 lb ya I know right rider. I weighed 185 when I met my wife but, anyway.

That is 770 lbs it has to carry. So multiplied that times the percentage of weight on front end.

770x.36=277lbs force
Then divide that by 2 because 2 springs and get 138.5lbs each leg.

I ordered 150lb springs we will see what happens?

I can always heat with torch the springs to get them to loose some force?

All the spring places said to stage up one size also.

Love that I-beam frame. The bike looks like a machine tool, I mean that in a good way. What kind of finish are you going to use?
