The chain tensioner I made couldnt take up all the slack, so I milled slots in the arms. Made a new tensioner & this time the slack is taken up. Still have to dial in spring tension & once thats done Ill move the spring on the inside of the tensioner.

Unfortunately the issue I had with the chain will be the same issue i will have with the brake. There will be excessive slack in the cable, & Im not sure I could even figure out how to correct it. As much as I like the conical hubs Ive decided to go disc. Ive had this front wheel laying around, so I ordered bigger ID bearing & will turn a thicker axle. Order thicker spokes & will make a bracket to mount a sprocket. Not sure whether Ill run a 3.5 or 4.0 tire

SELF INTRODUCTION: I was on the last board as bonustoolkit. I have changed that to my given name. I started a project build there " File and Fit." I paln to continue that when I go back home in Dec. 2011. I first joined the board when Gary W had it in the year 2005. That was the time I really gained an interest in building chops. I have a long way to go, compared to some here.

I chucked the hub into the lathe & 1st I faced off the threads for a grease seal. No need for a sealif Im running a sealed bearing. Then I opened the bearing housing to accept a larger bearing. Turned a new axle & put the swing arms back in the mill to widen the axle slots. Still need to make axle plates & adjusters. New thicker spokes will be ordered as well. I have to get a sprocket & make a mount for that.

Had to wait for some parts to come in to work on the rear wheel. In the mean time I mounted my headlight. Sucks that I dropped it off the table & broke the lens. Guess I'm gonna try to form one out of plexiglas.

SELF INTRODUCTION: I'm a Kentucky boy who's found himself transplanted into Japan. been into turning wrenches as long as i can remember. i love muscle cars, hotrod bikes, and the martial arts.
been a member of this board since back when it was a part of Chopperweb. been handling the tech side and sharing the admin duties for several years now.
Love the progress you're making. I especially dig the kickstand mount and arm. Little playful touches like that are what makes it fun to me. Sucks that you dropped the light, but i'll be interested to see how you form the new lens-i might just learn something new.
I agree with you that it's a shame that the board is like a graveyard in here. I guess not that many people into building choppers themselves nowadays.
This place will stay around as long as I can keep it going though.

I haven't been doing much bike work myself lately . been tied up in an old chevy truck but I will be doing a bike again after that so im grateful that you keep this place going budoka . I am here all the time checking things out . I have a really cool long triumph chop all figured out except color in my head . its getting so hard to find a motor that runs well they dont want a ton of money for anymore . I dont want to chop up a good stocker with so few out there you can buy a decent evo big twin for the price of a triumph now where I live .
ever notice when you hit somethin or someone with a hammer you feel instantly better

The drive side is pretty much done.1st I Made a spacer & then made the sprocket mount. This part was actually much more complicated for me than it looks. Made up some stainless studs to hold the sprocket. Also got the axle adjusters made. Started on the brake side tonight.

There will be 6 stainless studs running from the brake through the hub & into the sprocket mount, but I thought Id put a couple roll pins in just for a little extra.

be careful with stainless hardware on brake and drive components they usually are brittle and tend to shear under high torque . id hate for you to get hurt or wreck your hard work

My thinking is the bike doesn’t have the weight like a Harley or the balls of a hyabusa. There will be 6 5/16 & 5 3/8 studs sharing the load on each side.

Brake side with the exception of making a few studs (decided to go with Curts advise & not make them from stainless) is basically done. Had a couple of set backs, the original rotor I planned to run didnt work out. Then I tried to mill round holes in the stock rotor....that wasnt happening either. Searched around & found the rotor the way I wanted it. I plan on drilling holes in the braking surface, & still have to mount the caliper.
