P-clamps .....

Post by yona »

Any body up for this..... I need 4 P-clamps made to mount a freebie RK wind shield to my FXR 39 mm Narrow-glide front end. I can rough them out , but I need the 39mm hole bored and the clamps split and drilled and tapped for allen head bolts. Anyone interested and at what price. I have the material ..... 3/4" 6061 plate ... ????

No ....... but they will be shaped like a "P", 39 mm holes, split and drilled and tapped to fit to 39mm legs. The leg part will stick out to the side and be drilled and tapped for button-head hex machine screws. I can draw up something. To keep them from being so bulky, 1/4-20 or smaller, for the clamp part and maybe 5/16 to hold the shield on..... Brackets are quick-disconnect, but will drill and mount.

The inside corners should be trimmed to keep them from hitting tank or light .... like a connecting rod end or a little recessed.

In adding specs, I realized that this was more involved than it needs to be ..... thanks anyway.... bought this http://www.ebay.com/itm/Carbide-Tip-Met ... 0791782205
and will cut plate with carbide saw and drill and tap , cut cap and then use cutters to make cut for radius.... might not be pretty but painted black they will work ; )
Have a piece of 6 x 12".... If I flop the pattern, I can get 2 out of a 4"x6" piece ...

I just returned home from a 2 week trip in New Mexico, have a few good pix, can't wait to share my off-highway traveling. Got to put 1400 miles on the scoot.

I was wrong ,,,,, Yeah, it happens ... ; ) Was in Hongkong and he showed me the 39mm and It will be here in a couple of weeks.... I will layout , cut the caps and drill and tap holes and center a guide hole. Drill press vise will hold 2 at a time. Cut final P shape after all other work is done, leaving 1/2 " thickness for the area that wraps around fork leg.

Assemble the clamps using a washer to seperate the halves. Drill as close as you can...then file to suite. You can scribe a mark to file to and hold in a vice to help keep it square. When you get close, clamp in place and slide the clamp over the surface to find the high spots. Use a bearing scraper to take off the high spots.

I've done dozens of bearings this way and hated every scrape of it, but it works.
