Re: welding fins

i now have a fixture that bolts to my head and has a shaft to clamp into the chuck on my lathe. Then I grind the fins with my tool post grinder and a cut off wheel. Sometimes takes a lot of fiddling to get all the angles right. Cylinder fins are much easier!

Re: HEI Module with points

Nope gave up on it! it won't work on a V-twin with uneven points cam lobes because it fires on points closing. I tried it with the points opening tripping a transistor to close the circuit. And it ran briefly but wasn't what I was looking for. It was going to require a circuit board and heat sink so...

Re: Dusty's Bonneville Scout Build

Third week in July 2024 was the last Run to Raton; I just didn't get the photos posted in a timely manner. Doesn't sound like there will be any more.

Re: Making my oun Billet Scout Stroker pistons

a 1927 Oakley base with a 4 hp Millport head. No pistons finished yet for photos. I think I'm going to go with Sporty wristpins and bushings this time since it has Sporty rods. In the past I always just bushed to what the pistons came with. the 7075 alloy is just a wag 2816 & 4032 the alloys mos...

If we knew what type of welding, i.e. stick MIG, no gas MIG tig, oxy acetylene you do the suggestions might be mor specific. Pics couldn't hurt.

Red River New Mexico 2025

The Red River Rally is kinda starting up again. So, I rode up a couple of times and cleverly forgot my good camera both times so all you only get a few cellphone photos. But you do get to see my birthday present to myself for my 77 th next month a 2022 Indian Scout 60 so I have one bike with electri...

Re: Dusty's Bonneville Scout Build

Built the front engine mount-alternator mount. The pulley is part of the 1 to 10 drive for the blower. It will get a 10-tooth sprocket outboard the pulley driven from the crank sprocket. https://i.postimg.cc/cCYsP1vw/IMG_20250427_153855672_HDR.jpg https://i.postimg.cc/kgy5n5fy/IMG_20250427_153845603...

Re: new project

What I described results in normalized cromo. Lots of heat treats for hardness temper etc. What Drivemarak described sounds like a combo of normalizing and annealing. But for the structural I do normalizing is fine.

Re: new project

4130 and 4140 regardless of thickness must be normalized after arc or TIG welding IE heated o a dull red and allowed to air cool to avoid hydrogen embrittlement
