Re: Front engined VW
Okey dokey then....
I did not have the trans fully apart this time.
So some of this group of pics are from the internet instead of mine.
I had to up gear this thing dramatically on top of building for strength.
3.44 spline shaft (instead of normal keyed) nut type (instead of circlip) ring and pinion. From Ranchero.
1.26 3rd and .82 4th with the syncros welded on.
Heavy duty side covers.
4 spider diff unit.
The axles are shortened.
I bought these chrome dune buggy axle tubes and cut them down to match. The chrome made the press fit .006 to tight. I had to bore the end castings to fit.

Re: Front engined VW
I do not have any pics of the machine work on the inside of the trans case. I modified this long ago.
But.
I moved oil passages and drain backs around.
Plugged and moved vents ect....
All to make it oil and run upside down.
Yes.
The trans is upside down and backwards.
All to make the engine 6 inches lower.
My drain plug before was 3-1/2" off the ground.
With the current changes it looks like I will be an even 4" now.

Re: Front engined VW
It is 4 ft wide to the outside of the tires.
Early short axle that is cut 6" a side.
And upside down and backwards makes for an interesting shift pattern. But it seems natural to me when shifting left handed.
